This beautiful village boasts almost every recreational activity one can think of, including mini golf, go-karts, paintball, bumper boats, a petting zoo, trail rides, biking trails, canoe and kayak trips, fishing or bird watching. For the more adventurous, there are many rock climbing opportunities in the surrounding mountain ranges, or paragliding and hang-gliding from the peak of Mount Swansee, one of the best mountain soaring sites in the world.
The mountains around Radium are home to extensive wildlife. Sheer cliffs, surging snow-fed streams and lush river basins characterize the area and provide sanctuary to thriving population of wolf, coyote, cougar, lynx, wolverine, deer, mountain goat, big horn sheep, grizzly and black bear. A short trip is worthwhile to the Wolf Centre at Panorama Mountain Village.
A short drive through Kootenay National Park east of Hwy 93 from Radium Hot Springs will bring you to several good picnic sites and swimming spots, including Sinclair Creek, Olive Lake, Kootenay River, Dolly Varden, Hector Gorge, Wardle Creek, Numa Falls, Paint Pots, Marble Canyon, and Tokumm Creek.
Other popular tourist destinations, such as Banff and Lake Louise are located only an hour and a half away along the Kootenay Parkway, one of the most scenic drives in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Driving south on Hwy 93/95, Fairmont Hot Springs is 30 minutes from Radium, or driving further is White Swan Lake, where there is another hot springs hidden away from regular tourists. One more off the beaten track destination is Bugaboo Glacier (north on Hwy 95), a must for adventurous tourists. Alpine and Wetlands hiking and backpacking trails are available in Kootenay National Park, Bugaboo Provincial Park and numerous BC Forest recreation areas.
For the fans of water sports, Lake Windermere’s warm beaches and sandy shores are minutes away and promise excellent swimming and a wide variety of aquatic activities.
